GenderMenace.net is the dream and reality of a small collective of dedicated activists and programmers who are members or allies of transgender and gender-expansive communities.
We find inspiration in the activists who made it possible for our communities to exist as they are today, especially to transgender women of color for the strength and vulnerability they have shown in the face of intersectional oppression.
Our name is a tribute to the amazing activists of Transexual Menace, aka “The Menace”, a transgender rights activist organization founded in New York City in 1993 that was the first direct action group of its kind, and grew to be a national organization with 24 chapters.
The Gender Menace collective prefers to develop and offer privacy-oriented, security-conscious open source software available for free so that users of all classes can benefit more equitably from technology opportunities.
